Dr. Gary Niehaus :: West Des Moines Chiropractor

“Chiropractic care has always been a way of life for me,” admits Dr. Gary Niehaus.

“For as long as I can remember, my family chose chiropractic as part of their health care regimen. My father suffered from allergies, and chiropractic provided the only true relief for him. My mother became a chiropractic patient for relief of her neck and back pain, and later continued her care as part of her wellness regimen.”

“My first experience with chiropractic was due to a lower back injury from playing basketball,” continues Dr. Niehaus. “The relief I received from my first adjustment was nothing short of incredible. I was able to move freely and without pain! That’s when I decided that I would forever be a chiropractic patient, and even more, that I wanted to be a chiropractor.”

I wanted to be a Chiropractor

Dr. Niehaus is originally from Templeton, Iowa, and is a graduate of Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll. He began his pre-chiropractic studies at Iowa State University, where he studied the basic sciences including biology, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, anatomy, physiology and psychology.

After completing his study at Iowa State University, Dr. Niehaus was accepted at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. During his four years at Palmer, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, X-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Palmer College Public Clinic. After graduating in 1983, Dr. Niehaus established his practice in Des Moines. In addition, Dr. Niehaus has completed post-graduate training in radiology and holds a post-graduate credential in chiropractic orthopedics. Dr. Niehaus also serves as an examiner for the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

At Niehaus Chiropractic, We Love Skeptics

“We love skeptics,” smiles Dr. Niehaus. “I still remember the concerns and apprehension I had when I went to the chiropractor for the first time. So we make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and attempt to over communicate. Patients appreciate that.”

Dr. Niehaus is married to Mary and they have two children, Tom and Michael. Tom is a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and is a financial analyst in Overland Park, Kansas. Michael is also a graduate of Iowa State University, and is an information technology consultant in Chicago, Illinois. In his free time, Dr. Niehaus enjoys golf, Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings hockey, Iowa State University and Dowling Catholic High School athletics, and spending time with family and friends. In addition, Dr. Niehaus is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in West Des Moines, the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Des Moines, and is active in many other community and professional organizations.
